Battle Management Systems

MILGEM PROJECT

Turkish Republic Ministry of National Defense (MoD) Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) is carrying out a program named MILGEM to meet requirements of Turkish Naval Forces Command (TNFC).


ASELSAN and HAVELSAN have been assigned by SSM, as “Combat System Main Contractors” to provide combat system and its integration onboard MILGEM platform. ASELSAN and HAVELSAN formed a working group which is called ASELSAN HAVELSAN TEAM. Within the project, all sensors and weapons will be integrated to GENESIS based Combat Management System using specific hardware equipped with the latest technologies.


HAVELSAN will be performed in the following activities for the MILGEM Project.

  1. GENESIS based Combat Management System will be tailored and weapon/sensor integration to the CMS,
  2. Combat Management System Multifunction Operator Console and Cabinet procurement and integration,
  3. Ship Data Distribution and Time System design/production and integration,
  4. Combat System Data and Video Network design/production and integration,
  5. Message Handling System design/production and integration,
  6. Ship Information System design and integration,
  7. Torpedo Countermeasure System procurement and integration

 

COMBAT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Combat Management System (CMS) is the operational software that provides all facilities for Command and Control, Command Support and Fire Control. Combat Management System (CMS) is composed of C2 Application Software and Middleware which are designed in a proper architecture. CMS architecture is technically characterized by its fault tolerant, distributed and modular and layered structure:

  1. CMS is strictly modular in the composition and use of its hardware and software system elements and therefore contains a remarkable growth potential and adoption capabilities.
  2. CMS contains a layered structure above hardware. The layers are strictly separated, allowing a modular approach and a de-coupling of the various functions provided by the software.
  3. CMS components can be distributed over the computer nodes and can be automatically re-allocated to other computer nodes in case of damage or failure so that fault tolerance, high availability and damage resistance can be satisfied.

Middleware software is used to control the hardware and to provide a framework for the C2 Application Software.


MILGEM SHIP DATA DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM (MILGEM SDDU)
MILGEM SDDU collects the data (such as location, time, speed, meteorological data etc.) from the sensors all around the ship and distributes them to sensors, weapon systems and the other systems.


MESSAGE HANDLING SYSTEM
HAVELSAN Message Handling System will be accommodated in MILGEM as a corvette’s sub system. The proposed MHS will provide the processing of the ACP 127 formatted messages. The system has capability of message preparing, sending, archiving and print-out. Beside, it has compatible of ACP-127 and STANAG-5066 format coming from data channel. Message Handling System will be working both standalone and integrated to the CMS. In this way, Operators will work faster and within convenience.


TORPEDO COUNTERMEASURE SYSTEM

For the MILGEM Project, Torpedo Countermeasure System will be purchased and Integrated by HAVELSAN. Technology transfer from the foreign producer of the system will be about underwater acoustic and signal processing area. In this way, HAVELSAN aim is to join Turkish Navy’s possible the underwater acoustic project in the future.
